Australia fights major bushfires north of Melbourne
FORMOSAT-2 in action
|
Since 7 February, strong winds have fanned more than 50 bushfires across three States in Southeast Australia, in the midst of a heatwave that has left the region sweltering with temperatures as high as 46°C. FORMOSAT-2 was called into action by the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters to cover the fire-hit area north of Melbourne on 11 and 12 February. |

The full-resolution FORMOSAT-2 satellite images highlight the paths of fires and smoke. They will be used to organize relief efforts and map the extent of fire damage.
