The Deepwater Horizon oil rig and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico were collected by the SPOT 5 satellite on April 25, 2010.

This SPOT 5 image was acquired under the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters in which Spot Image plays a very active role.

It is being used by various government agencies to map out the area and contain the spill. Imagery collections will continue over the area in support of the disaster recovery efforts.
