Overland™ : turning satellite imagery into thematic data
Land cover analysis tool
Infoterra France, now merged with Spot Image, has developed the a processing, modelling and analysis suite – the Overland Thematic Processor – to process optical images from various satellite and aerial sensors and generate basic layers of geo-information (ranging from corrected reflectance to biophysical maps).
Accessing physical properties of the vegetation
An innovative approach for improved characterization of land cover over natural areas. Biophysical parameters give direct information on the physical properties of vegetation, water and soil, and so provide new decoding keys to produce Land Cover / Land Use maps, either for general usage or a more thematic one (forest management, wetland monitoring..).
In addition to providing an accurate depiction of the natural environment for improved land cover mapping, biophysical parameters are also key inputs for a wide range of models (yield prediction, irrigation, biomass, …) and provide new interpretation keys for agronomists, agriculture and forest managers, land cover and land use experts.
By embedding mapping tools, like classification tools in the software package, Overland™ allows clients to easily produce land cover maps.
With this innovative approach in your hands, Overland gives anyone the possibility to create accurate environmental analysis. Simply define your thematic context: area of interest, parameters sought, etc.
Biophysical parameter themes:
Vegetation: green cover fraction, brown cover fraction, Leaf area index;
Chlorophyll concentration, FAPAR, etc.;
Soil: soil cover fraction, soil brightness;
Water: water fraction, water optical depth, chlorophyll concentration;
Atmosphere: visibility distance, water vapor concentration.
