Optical, radar and VHR satellite data underpin
the broadest 3D offering on the market

-

Astrium Services’ GEO-Information division is poised to offer the broadest range of 3D products and services on the market derived from optical (Reference3D) and radar (TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X) satellite data. And the forthcoming Pléiades satellites are set to usher in a whole new era in 3D applications.

Spot Image already provides off-the-shelf digital elevation models (DEMs) covering a total area of 46 million sq.km. The store of raw data available to generate DEMs covers 117 million sq.km.— easily enough to satisfy most customers’ 3D needs.

Benefits of radar

Acquiring imagery over certain regions of the globe remains problematic, however, especially in equatorial zones. Through optical HRS data ideally complemented by its TerraSAR-X ELEVATION DSM product, Astrium GEO-Information Services can now provide high-quality DEMs of any point on the globe, acquired in all weathers.
And this range of elevation products is set to expand with digital terrain models (DTMs) generated from TerraSAR-X data.

More 3D

The TanDEM-X mission scheduled to come on stream in 2013 will make it possible to derive DEMs in DTED3 format (Digital Terrain
Elevation Data - level 3) of any point on the globe. And that’s not all, as the forthcoming Pléiades satellite will afford an additional tri-stereo acquisition capability. For example, it will be possible to cover the four largest cities of Pakistan in just one day (best case). 3D data quality will be 4 metres CE90 and 5 metres LE90 without ground control points.

Pléiades 3D products will be particularly well suited to high-precision mapping projects, as well as for flight simulations, operations planning in densely covered regions or siting of solar photovoltaic systems.
Last but not least, they will provide an unequalled source of ground control points to further enhance the location accuracy of Reference3D.
